Articulation
Articulation:
The process in which current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students choose their classes for the following school year. (Current 8th graders, see 8th Grade Info Page)
Why We Do It:
The school's budget and master schedule for the following school year is directly impacted by the articulation process. Student course selection determines the allocation of resources.
What To Expect:
-
September 20: Course Descriptions for the 25-26 school year will be updated. Students should view the Course Descriptions with prerequisites when choosing courses. On this website, go to > Academics > Course Descriptions.
-
October 29: Science teachers show the grade-specific video that shares information about the following year's courses, and directions on how to input the course requests into the PowerSchool Student Portal. Science teachers additionally will give each student a Support Document as a resource to assist with choosing courses and an Articulation Course Requests Card.
Absent? Video, Support Document, and Articulation Card will be posted on each grade level page the next day after school. -
October 29: Students will be able to add their course requests on the PowerSchool Student Portal. Counselor support will be offered during English classes on November 6 and November 7. Articulation Card should be completed by this date.
-
November 6-7: Counselors will host a Follow-Up Q&A Meeting via Google Meets for students and families regarding the articulation materials. See Grade Level Info pages for the specific dates and times.
-
DEADLINE: November 8: Course requests in PowerSchool and Articulation Card (give to English teacher) DUE
-
December - January: Counselors will meet one-on-one with students during English class to discuss course choices and answer any questions or share concerns about the classes they have chosen. (See dates on your Grave Level Info page.)
Note:
-
Students will have 18 days to review all the information, input their first choice courses into PowerSchool, and submit their Articulation Card to their English Teacher.
-
Request courses you want most during the articulation process, because that is what we use to create a master schedule and gives students the best chance of getting into their desired courses.
-
If a student changes their mind later, a class could be full or the class may not fit in their schedule.
Considerations when choosing classes:
-
Current grades in classes - We use first semester grades for guidance when selecting classes during articulation.
-
Recommended Prerequisites - Previous course/s and/or grades recommended to be setup for success in the class.
-
Teacher Recommendation - Speak with current teacher and possibly a potential future teacher if you want advice on choosing next year's class.
-
Overall workload of classes - Keep in mind outside of school commitments, e.g., sports, community service, job, family responsibilities, college applications, etc. Also, consider how the overall workload could impact physical or mental health and wellness.
-
Future classes - Will you need a class to meet the prerequisite for classes in a future year?
-
College and/or major admissions requirements - This information can be found on college websites under admissions. For specific majors you may need to view the webpage for that major.
